I've been working on this pastel painting of a really wonderful spot in Harper's Ferry, W.V. I can't do justice to the setting in this piece; it was one of those rounding-the-corner moments that transported me into another time. I loved the silence, the aging of the buildings, the sun in the grass, the rain barrels and the variety of construction and paving materials - all in one vignette! I didn't get out my triangle and rulers to map out the perspective here, but rather cobbled it all together by hand, intentionally skewing some aspects (like the not-so-lined-up windows) in an attempt to keep it under-worked in appearance. Some of it satisfies me, some of it not so much. But I mostly feel I preserved the mood.My artwork can be viewed at www.southmountainsketchbook.weebly.com
