Watercolor Wings by Kathy Michels

Finished my belly dancer painting.  She was so fun to do.  The wings were such a blast as they reflect everything and being semi-transparent you get more colors coming from behind them.  I have a feeling I will be doing more of these.  This is a watercolor 11 x 14.

Belly Dancer in Progress by Kathy Michels

I am working on this belly dancer piece which is a lot of fun with all the vibrant colors.  The dancer has beautiful dark red hair and when I've seen her dance her wings are usually a beautiful green that reflect so many colors.  This is another one from my photo shoot at the Biker's and Belly Dancers Cancer Benefit held each year.  This is approx. 11" x 17".  I post a better pic when it is finished that will show the vibrancy of the colors.

OMG watercolor by Kathy Michels

Here is my finished watercolor "OMG" which is approx. 20" x 20".  I have as much fun coming up with the composition as I do photographing my models.  I love the story telling aspect of art and being able to evoke emotions.  Sadly texting at the wheel is something we see to often.

Photo Shoot on the Farm by Kathy Michels

Future Watercolors
Last night members of the Hershey Area Art Assoc. did a photo shoot at a farm in Lebanon.  We had several children modeling.  We were each given one on one time with each model to set up our own shots.  We could bring props and had various fields, buildings, gates, etc. to take pictures at.  I have lots of great photos to get me through the winter months.

Watercolor in Progress by Kathy Michels

I always love working on my dancers.  This time of year I don't paint as often as I'd
like because I am always on a photoshoot somewhere.  Having lupus really restricts
the time I spend outdoors.  Springtime is a wonderful time for me to be out getting
photos that I will paint from during the hot summer months - though I do tend to
overdo it!  I am hoping to have "Artists at Work" finished up in the next week or so.

Watercolor Print in Silent Auction by Kathy Michels

This Sat. at noon is the annual cancer benefit in Highspire - "Bikers and Belly Dancers".  In 2011 I attended the event and did a photo shoot.  It was an amazing event.  This year I will again attend the event but this time I will speak and the print show above will be sold in a silent auction at the event with proceeds going to the cancer benefit.  "Sugar and Spice" had an amazing 2012/2013.  It was awarded 1st place in watercolors at the Art Assoc. of Harrisburg's Figuratively Speaking show.  From there it went on to be juried into the Shanghai International Watercolor Biennial and was published in a hardbound book.  From there it was included in a traveling exhibit first at the Children's Palace in Shanghai and then on to the Oriental Pearl Tower for their New Year's Celebration.  When it returned in April it was then juried into the Baltimore Watercolor Society's Mid-Atlantic show which opens June 10th.  I am so excited to be able to give back to the benefit that has given me so much!

Cars in Progress - Watercolor by Kathy Michels

Here is my newest watercolor in progress - a pile of hot wheels.  I'm glad to be back on here.  Last month was a little busy with photo shoots and photo shopping my composition for my next big piece.  I also had the opportunity to speak at the Hershey Art Assoc. to a wonderful group of artists.  But now it is time to get back to painting!  While I finish this birthday gift hot wheels picture I am also drawing this newest comp.  So much fun!

Michels Watercolor headed for Children's Palace in China

International watercolor artist, Kathy Michels' painting "Sugar and Spice" will continue it's overseas tour. The painting was one of 200 juried into the Shanghai Zhujiajiao International Watercolour Biennial Exhibition. The show, which ran from Nov. 28 until Dec. 31, saw a total of over 10,000 entries. Michels has just received word that the show would like to retain her artwork for an additional two months for a traveling exhibit that will take place at the Children's Palace in Jan. and the Oriental Pearl Tower in Feb.  The Pearl Tower exhibit will be part of the Chinese New Year's celebration festivities.  The tower normally sees 12,000 visitors per day but during the new year's activities the biennial reports visitors average 30,000 per day.

The Watercolor Biennial recently sent all exhibitors copies of the exhibit book and certificates for being part of this show. Each artist was given a full page in this book for their juried entry and the artist name and name of painting was listed in both English and Chinese (shown in photos).
