Before painting the canvas, I applied modeling paste to give it texture. I also added a small chain and cotton cloth in parts of the painting. After it dried over night, I painted the image. So there is a story to this painting... I went into my studio the other day to get something and happened to glance at the newsprint covering my art table. I haven't changed it for quite some time. The second image is what the newsprint looked like. I couldn't help but see an image of two faces... a woman and a man. So I got out some water soluble crayons and started further defining the faces. The first image is the final painting. I love this painting because of the way it came to be. I've decided I'm going to keep the original painting and have prints for sale.  I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder..

The woman is breaking free from chains that have held her bound. The chains could be from her past, or fear or anything that keeps her from courageously moving forward.

This painting is number 5 in the 30 day challenge. It is different than most paintings I've done in that I don't normally paint landscapes or flowers. But this painting does have a person in it and that is usually what I paint. She is waiting in the silence with an expectant heart. And just the act of waiting is enough right now.
