These beautiful, elegant animals just try to survive and avoid humans which makes it difficult to photograph them so I visit the ones in captivity.

On a recent drive through the battlefield at Gettysburg, I took many photos but the reference photo I used for this painting was my all time favorite. I do not know who the people in this horseback tour are that happened to be there that day but I thought the scene looked so peaceful. I have this on my list to do. Just found out my "Pears in a Bowl" was accepted into the Keystone National Juried Exhibit at the Mechanicburg Art Center in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Choosen by juror Laurin McCracken.

I was surprised to see this Nuthatch at my feeder. Grabbed the camera and had to paint him. Love it when I see different birds appear right outside my kitchen window.

This painting is something I have never done before-a war scene but this is not an actual war just a re-enactment captured by a photographer friend of mine, David Churchill. When he showed me some of the photos from the re-enactment he saw, I said I was drawn to the action of the horses so he said "paint it". I used his photo for reference but changed some things and has sparked a thought to create a series of civil war horses. I will be doing my research and try this new series.

I just completed this pastel of pears in a bowl but always looking at ways to improve it. Even though pastels are messy, I love to watch the color pop on on the paper and form the object that is in front of me.

My friend gave me  cutting from her iris but was'nt sure what color it was. I was completely thrilled when this beautiful purple iris appeared in my garden. I just had to paint them and this is the second painting, the first was a watercolor.

Fresh off my easel is this oil painting of a steer and her calf alone in a field. My reference photo was the basis of this painting which was taken on a friends farm near Hunterstown many years ago. Since I was raised on a farm,  I get excited when I can visit a farm to take pictures for painting references.

This painted stork I met in Florida at Disney Animal Kingdom. So beautiful that I had to do a colored pencil portrait of him or her since there is no difference in feather coloring between the male and female.
