Winter Skies by Chistine Marx

Hi Everyone. I hope your holidays were relaxing and wonderful. I just finished a re-do of a painting I did in December. The first one was a 6 x 6" that I did for Daily Paintworks. I liked the first one and thought I would like to do it bigger. I think this is a 12 x 16", and I changed the palette slightly. I am loving these "snow skies" that we are seeing around here lately. They make for beautiful reference photos!

Sunset on 202 - oil on canvas 5" x 7" by Christine Marx

Hello everyone! This is a teeny, tiny 5 x 7" landscape that I did yesterday for the Daily Paintworks. It's fun working in such a small size but I think I need to get a few smaller brushes! It's another one from the beautiful snowfall we had last week.

Winter Solstice - oil on canvas 8 x 10" by Christine Marx

Here is a sneak peek at tomorrow's Daily Paintworks. I have been fortunate to have lots and lots of birds around my water feature and bird feeder that is right outside my studio door. This puffy little guy had breakfast with me this morning.

The link for tomorrow's painting is   http://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/chris-marx/winter-solstice/187457

I also have quite a few bluebirds and cardinals that have a beautiful carmel color on their body. I am hoping to do the other birds later this week. Happy painting!

Vanilla Bean Cupcake - 6 x 6 oil on canvas by Christine Marx

The start of a new week and another daily painting. I really enjoy painting cupcakes and desserts. In addition to the beautiful colors that pop up in frostings, they make the studio smell really yummy!

Bucks County First Snowfall - oil on canvas 8 x 10" by Christine Marx

So this is the last daily paint work for this week. It was a fun week and I really like changing it up between very intense paintings that take weeks to finish, and daily paintings. I have tons of photo references to use for the future after driving around for hours on Wednesday taking pictures. The best pictures were at the end of the day, when the sun finally came out, and I got this picture.

This one is available at http://www.dailypaintworks.com/fineart/chris-marx/bucks-county-snowfall/186711

Have a great weekend and stay warm!

Pear and Blue Cheese - 6 x6 oil on canvas by Christine Marx

This is another entry for the Daily Paintworks this week. I was so excited to see that my first painting that I posted sold within the first couple of days! I have such fun painting these small works and it's so rewarding to have new collectors.

Winter Pines - 5 x 7" oil on canvas by Christine Marx

So now, in addition to being a Daily Painter of Pennsylania, I have also joined Daily Paintworks. It's an online group of painters that do (mostly) small works and offer them for sale daily. I have recently started painting small works and have enjoyed it so much. If you're not familiar with the site you should check it out. There are some fabulous works for sale there by some great artists. I have bought a few myself over the past couple of months!

Momma Bird - oil on canvas 16 x 20" by Christine Marx

This painting probably looks familiar. It's a tighter rendition of the study I completed a few weeks ago. I love these little ceramic birds that I got at either Home Goods or Michaels a few months ago! There are three of them and I just love their little faces so they've been showing up in more than one painting.

Study for tomorrow's painting by Christine Marx

Hi everyone. So sorry I missed the DPP show. It looked like a lot of fun, as well as a great collection of art!

This is a post of today's progress. It's a study for tomorrow's painting. I ordered a really neat DVD focusing on Russian Impressionism, and it kind of inspired me to do a fun, big brush, fast painting. I thought it would be great to work out the kinks of composition, color, light, etc. before starting the more realistic painting tomorrow.

I hope you're all enjoying your summer. I am really enjoying seeing the beautiful work on the site.

Sunflowers and Coffee Grinder - oil on canvas 18 x 24" by Christine Marx

I scored this coffee grinder recently at a garage sale, and was very excited to finally use it in a painting. It seemed to pair very well with these beautiful sunflowers that my best friend from California brought me when she was visiting last week.   And lastly, I added the brand new perfectly folded blue tea towel. I had to paint that one before it went through my washer as they never seem to look so crisp after I launder them!

In My Garden - 16 x 12" oil on canvas by Christine Marx

What a difference a day makes! I started this yesterday in my backyard. I finished most of it. Today it is FREEZING, and I finished it in the warmth of my studio. Hoping our warm weather returns soon!

Two Little Birds - oil on linen by Christine Marx

In keeping with my goal of painting one painting a week through July for the Doylestown Audubon Tour of the Barns Show this is the second painting. I had never painted ceramic figures before and it was fun. Plus, they don't spoil or move, like flowers do! I am also loving hydrangeas showing up in the stores and nurseries.

The Lone Cypress by Christine Marx

So I thought in preparation of going home in a few weeks I'd warm up with a painting of my favorite place to visit when I'm there. Cruising down the coast through Santa Cruz, Capitola, and Monterey and Carmel are always on the top of my list.

Day 17 in the 30 Day Paint Challenge - New Hope Winter by Christine Marx

I have painted this spot on a huge canvas (36 x 48") and now I have painted it teeny-tiny on an 8 x 10" panel. This is one of my favorite spots in Bucks County. It's actually the view from Lambertville, New Jersey looking over to New Hope, Pennsylvania. The river running between is the what we call the mighty, mighty Delaware. This is the perfect spot to paint because right behind me is one of the best wine bars in the country, and a wonderful place to unwind after painting!

Tulips and Oranges - Day 14 of the 30 Day Paint Challange by Christine Marx

It was so nice to get back to painting today. Life really got in the way last week of me getting out to the studio. This is a teeny-tiny 8 x 6" oil on canvas. I just love small paintings. They have the added bonus of being easy to find a spot for and easy to hang!

Two Cold Ones 16 x 20" oil on canvas by Christine Marx

This is a painting I finished today that my sister-in-law asked me to paint for my brother's birthday. It's two bottles of beer from his favorite brewery along with his favorite potato chips. I have never seen this brand (they live on the west coast) but I like the packaging and the bright red and white stripes. I think it adds to the painting.

Sunflowers - Day 6 of the 30 Day Challenge by Christine Marx

This little painting was done with all palette knife rather than brushes. It gives it great dimension in real life. The painting measures 6 x 6" unframed. Framed it is 12 x 12". I am finding the paint challenge more enjoyable than I had anticipated, and also more challenging than I had anticipated. I just might continue trying to finish one piece per day, in addition to the more laborious paintings that take weeks or months. It seems to be a good combination. The only thing that has suffered due to the extra workload has been housecleaning, but I can live with that!

New Hope Train - oil on panel 12 x 16" by Christine Marx

This is for Day 3 of the 30 Day Challenge with Leslie Saeta. It is the New Hope Train that I rode with my daughter and husband last weekend. We rode through the beautiful Pennsylvania countryside for an hour, in an ornate bar car, and sipped Guiness while listening to Christmas carols. It is a memory I will cherish.
