"Peonies" by Tatiana Myers. WIP. Update #1.

"Peonies" by Tatiana Myers. Oil Pastel WIP.

This is about as far as I moved with this work during my demo session at Art and Soul Gallery. You can see what a difference in light and color giving Oil Pastel to painting compare to original underpainting, or even compare to the photo reference. I feel like it bringing painting to life every time when I touch a board. There is a nothing like this glow of Oil Pastel. This is one of the reasons why I love it so much.

How large is this painting? It really does have a nice glow.

Thank You, ladies!

I'm trying to keep pastels in somewhat standard sizes, because of framing issues. Most of my works are 8x10" or 11x14" to keep it simple with frames and glass. This one is 11x14.

Tatiana, this is coming along beautifully. Your words got me to thinking. Maybe I do not know much about oil pastels, per se, but I honestly think it has less to do with the medium used than it does the skills of the artist. Similar effects are achieved with oils, acrylics, watercolors, and even graphite! To me this is a sure testament to YOUR skills, which are amazing. You can almost see through the petals, much as you can when the sun shines upon the flowers...Lovely!

Thank You, Autumn and Jack!

I'm planning to continue on this one next week. This weekend I have to work on another project, therefore peonies have to wait.

I enjoyed seeing you work in person at Art & Soul on this subject.

Pat, I HAVE to touch that flower! It is not finished yet. Sorry!

Thom, it was great to see you there. I will be watching for information when you have your watercolor demonstration. Hope we will be able to find a time to see it.
