While researching fish in India in an antique book my brother bought

me a couple of weeks ago, I came across a couple of 'trout'.

While they are closely related to the carp family, rather than

salmonid fishes (trout,char,salmon), due to their resemblance

to trout, their local name has trout in them. The second

fish in this painting will be the wonderfully named

Tibetan Snowtrout. I was fascinated  about the fish in India,

due to my travels there, while in International Marketing.

Due to my love of painting Trout Watercolor Studies,

these 'Pseudo-Trout' caught my eye.

A continuation of a series of darters found on the East Coast. This is the fourth

darter of the series. It is another colorful one- similar to the Rainbow Darter

but found a little farther west- in the Ohio River Drainage Waterways.

These small bottom huggers (Around 2 inches long) are one of my

favorite subjects. I love the various markings and especially

the bulldog faces with bugged out eyes.

I wanted to show another version of how a fish appears- like magic

on my paper.

This one features some local freshwater daters.
They hang out on the bottom of lakes, rivers and
streams around Pennsylvania. You may not know them
as they are very small- and quick- hence the name.

Another species of Sunfish to add to my series of

local Freshwater Species. This one is small, but pretty.

The difference between the Eastern & Western Dollar Sunfish is:

The Western Sunfish has white markings, while

the Eastern version has blue markings. I am glad I am an Easterner.

"Under Rusty Belly's" by Dianne Lorden

Hello everyone. I just returned from a retreat in the Poconos, feeling mostly refreshed. I had started this one before I left (from a picture I took in Florida in June) and find now that I'm in a completely different frame of mind. That's the way it goes, I guess! I made myself "wrastle" it into some form of completion. It's Rembrandt pastels on brick red art board.

By the way, I drove through glorious rain during my trip, but apparently very little fell here in Gettysburg, which has been way too dry. So, my fingers are crossed for a shower or two!

Just finished a few minutes ago. So the image is not the usual

professional one that I have done for prints, note cards, mugs, etc.

This was requested by a Snowbird who fishes for Snook in Florida 

while we brave the winter. It also proves my theory that many

of our fish are named by drunk fishermen.

I just hung this painting up at the Bosler Library in Carlisle on an exhibit with CALC. I have had a lot of fun with this painting. It is one of 2 of this Genus that includes the White Crappie. My best selling mug has the 2 Cappies on it facing each other and the saying- 'Crappie Coffee'. My best selling note card has this painting on it with the saying -

'Sorry to hear you are feeling...'  then it has the picture of the Black Crappie and under it the Name and Scientific name above. Inside it says 'Hope your are better soon. The fish are bitting.'
