Walt Whitman (completed) by Amy Lindenberger
Sometimes I lose track of what I've posted, where...
I just realized that I never posted the completed version of this drawing (French Gray colored pencil on Canson Mi-Teintes paper), and I don't like leaving things unfinished!
In keeping with my Civil War themed artwork, I wanted to include a montage featuring Walt Whitman, best known as an American poet, but who was also a Civil War Nurse. The primary image is one of my favorites of him (I think he has such an interesting face!); the lower left image is based on one of the last photos taken of him, shortly before his death, and the other images represent his time spent working in and around the military hospitals near Washington, D.C.

carol & ken by kim smith
This painting is of Carol & Ken. They are parents of a good friend of mine. I took this photo a few years ago always hoping to have time to paint them. They show up for all of their grandsons swim meets prepared to camp out and wait for the few moments of excitement when he swims. Then settle back into their seats and wait patiently for the next big event. Summer swim season is here...and what a lovely way to pass the time reading a book and relaxing with all the splashing and laughing going on nearby.

I created this portrait of my granddaughter from a cell photo photo she took of herself while riding in the car with her mom. Windows were open and her hair was blowing which created a wild effect. I titled it "Aldabella" which means beautiful in Italian.

"Down to the river..." Pastel study by Tatiana Myers.

About two years ago we went to do extensive photo-shoot on Susquehanna.
Most of it was done on McKees Half Falls, but this time it was no so much about landscape, I wanted to collect some god references for future figure studies... something what I didn't do for ages and never really mastered to my like. Perhaps now is a time. The other day I took some of those older photos out, made my pick for the first study and went ahead with pastels. Had wonderful time playing with those and here is result.

This portrait was very muddy looking and had no life. I gave her several face lifts and repainted over and over until I was happy with her glowing skin. Each piece is a learning experience and an adventure.

"Haiti's Tiny Treasure" watercolor by Kathy Michels
I had the opportunity to meet this little bundle of energy a few months ago. He was so adorable and so full of life. This is my second time working with hot press paper. It's alot of fun to see the different effects you can achieve with different paper - though it does take getting use to.

"To Dance To Dream" Watercolor by Kathy Michels
The greatest payment an artist can receive for their painting is not measured in money but in the tears from a mother. Today at the reception and unveiling of our paintings for the "Degas Project" I received just that. It was so rewarding to see how happy the entire family was with the painting of their beautiful daughter. The model was a beautiful girl - inside and out - giggly, happy and full of joy - truly a joy and honor to paint. Finished watercolor matted and framed is 44" x 28".

"I Felt the Baby Move" drawing in progress by Kathy Michels
"I Felt the Baby Move" was such a tender moment. My models were not related. This little girl felt the baby move for the very first time as I was snapping the shots. It was an amazing moment for her to actually realize there really is a baby there. I am finishing up the drawing and can't wait to start painting this one later this week. This will be a watercolor on a full sheet 30" x 22".
