One day of Glory, Oil Pastel, Tatiana Myers.

Latest Oil pastel floral piece. this time I got to try Pastelmat
for my Oil Pastels... and I LOVE it!
I can do all the dry-brushing I want without shredding my brushes.
But still... this is the sanded surface and it grabs and holds Oil Pastels very well!
Also... I tried about all solvents I have on my shelf with this support,
and it performed well with everything - water, mineral spirit, alcohol....
I may just have found another favorite support for Oil Pastel paintings.
Maybe... Perhaps I did.

"Pas de trois", Oil Pastel, Tatiana Myers.
Pas de trois is French term meaning "steps of three",
usually referring to a dance in ballet
between three people. Somehow I figured out that I really love to paint
floral trios and almost any of my composition what includes flowers,
will end up with three of those. This one is no different.
This is my first and only so far Oil pastel painting on U-art.
I had several samples of different grit of U-art
sent me by manufacturer few years ago. At that time not all samples
worked for me well and I had issues with more coarse grit. But no more.
This painting on U-art 280, the most "heavy" grit on a market.
I used some watercolor underpainting and Caran D'Ache pastels.
Good practice before my 3-day workshop I should be doing
next month for Mechanicsburg Art Center and Galleries.

"Trinity" finished!
"Trinity", Oil Pastel on Pastelbord.
My painting session tonight went very well and I call this one finished.
I'm pretty happy with this painting and it was fun and challenging work
(as most of Oil Pastels are).
need to pack my sticks up and finish my oil what was waiting for a while.
More on "Trinity".
I'm getting closer to finish with this floral painting.
Still need to do more with reds, but the rest is pretty much done.
I will post just one more update, when I'll call this one finished.

"Trinity" WIP by Tatiana Myers.

on Ampersand Pastelbord.
This is my latest and newest work in progress what going to be another floral Oil Pastel.
because this time I have more complicated Still Life subject, I have to use extensive,
well developed underpainting, to set my foundation just right.
What You see here is a combination of Fluid Acrylic (black only) with
watercolor-pencils "Supracolor" made by Caran D'Ache.
My next step will be an application of Oil Pastel and organic solvents.
I will be posting more soon.

Mysterious boxes.
This morning our mail-lady presented me with two big boxes.
At first I was very surprised - we didn't expect any deliveries...
But then I looked on a sender's label and realized
that it was my shipping from Geneva.
Caran D'Ache of Switzerland send me some samples
of their art products.
It was a "Thank You gift" from the company.
At the end of 2012 I was contacted by Caran D'Ache and asked to use
one of my Works-In-Progress images for their new product brochure
on one of my favorite brands on Oil pastels - Neopastel.
It was very generous gift. I received 48 colors set of Neopastels,
box of 40 my beloved Supracolor pencils
and new for American market pastel cubes and pencils.
(I have to admit - I'm already in LOVE with those pencils!)
I also received some brochures, including one with image of my art work,
what company will be using for the next several years
as educational material included with their Oil Pastel set.
I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning, unwrapping those boxes.
It sure made my day!

"Where Time Stops", Oil Pastel by Tatiana Myers.
"Where Time Stops"
12x16" Oil Pastel on board.
This is my latest finished Western étude painted after out 2011 trip to Wyoming.
Painting is done in oil pastels and one of my biggest challenges here was attempt
to try semi-transparent layering on a background. I wanted to create nice atmospheric effect
on a far mountains, but yet - didn't like the idea of just painting those blue.
After some testing and trying things out I found a way how to make it work.
Generally I had to let every new layer dry as much as possible, before applying my next "glaze"
(with the time oil pastels are not drying completely but getting significantly harder).
Here is the end result... I'm pretty pleased with it.

Yesterday somehow I figured out, that I'm finished the painting. it is always shocking discovery,
when I'm working with oil pastels... I never know when I'm going to stop. No idea!..
But well... whatever also I will do, it will not contribute any more to concept of this painting.
So perhaps I'm done...didn't take that long, as I was expecting.
Need to put it away and preserve from dust. It is an Oil Pastel after all.

Point Lobos Arhes - Oil Pastel in progress by Tatiana Myers
This is my latest painting I'm working on. I have about two weeks to finish it... or less.
What for me is not that much. This is hopefully going to be future entry
for "America's parks" competition... considering it will be finished on time and they indeed will like it.
Regardless of competition part, I truly enjoy the painting process
and trying to apply principals I learned during my latest pastel workshop to Oil Pastels.
And it is working. (At my opinion).
All initial blocking is done, I'm starting working in finishing touches with this painting,
what is always my favorite part.
Will post another update when I'm doe with it.

Oil Pastel "Illuminated" and more news from Tatiana Myers
Well... correction!.. Sorry for re-posting the same thing twice, but I have another announcement to make
Here we go...
1) Yesterday I found out that my latest floral Oil Pastel "Illuminated" was accepted into the ALLIED ARTISTS OF AMERICA, INC. 99-th annual exhibition.
Show will ran from November 9 to November 18 2012 @ National Art Club Galleries, NYC.

Normally show #2 will be in Salmagundi Club, NYC, but fortunately for me, this season Salmagundi galleries were under reconstruction, therefore Grand National will be online show... what gives perfect opportunity for one the same painting to be shown at both venues at the same time.
Very unique way to show, thank You to Internet!
And those were all my news... for now.

Untitled Lilies, Oil pastel in progress by Tatiana Myers.
Just a fragment of latest painting I'm working on... I wanted to take this subject for a while, but wasn't sure how exactly I want to do it... So finally I decided to give a try to my white lilies and going to do those in Oil Pastel with extensive under-painting in gouache. Right now for a couple of days I still working on that under-painting and so far it is going the way I want it to go. I hope to see my watercolor part finished soon and then switch to my beloved Oil Pastels. If everything goes right, this is going to be my entry to the

More news from Tatiana Myers.
This happened to be an extremely busy summer for me...
Our little girl is getting married, our horses are getting new barn,
lot of work in the garden and with my show dogs and I have few great art
events to attend what require extensive traveling...
With all this in mind I still have to make myself some quality painting time...
What I do... but those are mostly nights.
Few new painting are on a way, but mean while my "older paintings"
(what are mostly just 2-3 years "old" or even lesser) still do the job...
Yesterday I received a wonderful news from Oil Pastel Society.
"Congratulations! The judges have found your work to be exceptional and have awarded you signature status in the Oil Pastel Society."
I'm finding it very significant, because just about 3 years ago I found myself completely in love with Oil Pastels, finished my first floral painting and entered it into my very first juried show. It was beginning of exiting journey in the World of Big Art and it all started from Oil Pastels what I conceder my
"lucky medium" and one of my personal favorites...

I finished my painting of Red Orchids from Longwood Garden. Everything is ready for framing.
Mean while I may go back to my Ruby Bowl and hopefully have that one finished sometime soon too...

Longwood Garden's Orchids by Tatiana Myers. Work in Progress.
14 x 11" on Museum Panel.
This is a preparation stages for another floral Oil Pastel. I'm not going to describe all details, but to keep it simple all you can see right now will not be visible, when my work will be over... It is only mean to be an underpainting.
I'm working on another ampersand museum sanded panel with watercolor pencils and wash. The reason of turning pencils into wash - Oil Pastel goes much better over watercolor and doesn't have tendency to crumble as much, what is essential for successful painting. At the last photo you see finished underpainting and it is ready for Oil Pastels... any time now!

"Iris Garden" Oil Pastel of Tatiana Myers. More news.

This Friday I received great news from publisher of "International Artist" magazine.
My Oil Pastel "Iris Garden", what currently I have hunging in my studio at Gallerie 13,
was chosen as one of 10 finalists in Challenge #62 "Flowers and Gardens" Competition
and will be published in "International Artist" issue #78 April/May 2011
together with some insides on my working methods.
I always had a feeling that this work is special and one day will bring me a big surprise. And it sure did! Another good part is - I will not have to ship it anywhere this time.
And mean while it will stay just where it is. please stop by at Gallerie 13 and take another look. Gallerie 13 is representing several members of DPP and has some amazing work of art on display!

"End of Summer". Oil Pastel by Tatiana Myers.
"End of Summer".
14 x 11" Oil & Oil Pastel on board.
This is my latest finished landscape painting what was done in two stages. First stage I did us underpainting in oils and them finished it with layering of Oil Pastels. Like usually i was using solvent with Oil Pastels to make it look more "paint-like", but also some drawing was involved. So this work is a perfect combination of painting and drawing. i also took advantage of texture of heavy underpainting. It is different from my other landscapes, but I like it.
