Tulip Express by Daily Painter of Pennsylvania Mary Beth Brath

Tulip Express by Mary Beth Brath
11x14" Acrylic on Masonite Panel

The tulips in my yard were huge this year. Loads of powerful dancing tulips drinking in the sunshine. The painting session was intense. It was hard to control all that was in front of me and place it on an 11x14" panel.

I think the emotions transferred well.

Prams on Martha's Vineyard Original Art Painting by Daily Painter of Pennsylvania Mary Beth Brath

Prams on Martha's Vineyard by Mary Beth Brath
8x10" Acrylic on Canvas

"Prams" was painted this month in my studio from a photograph I took last summer on Martha's Vineyard. My husband and I sat on a small dock and had lunch at this location. The building is the typical color and design of many of the buildings around the island. Many of the trees naturally bend to the side from years of standing guard against the weather.

Sunset Over Martha's Vineyard by Mary Beth Brath

Dramatic. This was the scene from the balcony off my bedroom at Martha's Vineyard this past summer. I painted this from a photo while in my studio this week.

Long's Point Beach on Martha's Vineyard Original Art Plein Air Paintings by Mary Beth Brath

Long's Point study #1
8x10" acrylic

Long's Point study #2
5x7" acrylic

These quick plein air studies were done back to back on the second day of my plein air trip to Martha's Vineyard this past September. The first day of the trip was spent exploring the Island. On day 2, we went to Long's Point.

These paintings have a different feel than the other paintings I created that week. I was de-stressing from a crazy year and settling into the mood of the Island. I worked out a palette of colors that made the rest of the week go extremely well. Now that winter is here, I plan to work on studio paintings from my journey and will use the same color choices used while working plein air.

Mt. Gretna PA Pond Original Art Plein Air Painting by Daily Painter of Pennsylvania Mary Beth Brath

Mt. Gretna Pond by Mary Beth Brath
6x6" Acrylic on Masonite
100% Plein Air

My last post on the DPP blog was from a day of painting at Mt. Gretna PA. The painting shown above is the second painting created that same day.

I was so comfortable while painting this scene. I placed a towel on the ground and sat down. No easel either - I just held the panel in my hand and used the paint that I laid out for the painting created earlier that day.

Mt. Gretna Beauty Plein Air Original Art Painting by Daily Painter of Pennsylvania Mary Beth Brath

Mt. Gretna, PA. by Mary Beth Brath
8x10" Acrylic - Plein Air

This past summer, I went on a painting trip to Mt. Gretna PA with the Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters. The homes and landscaping are amazingly quaint and classy. I had a wonderful time painting this lovely home.

The painting sold later that day to the owner of the home.

Two Leaf Portrait Original Art Paintings by Daily Painter of Pennsylvania Mary Beth Brath

Acrylic on Canvas Paper

Just paint. That is what I did. I went out into the yard a couple of weeks ago, grabbed a couple of leaves and headed for the studio. These were really fun and they "kept my brush wet".

All Is Well With A Candle In The Window - Origianl Art Painting by Mary Beth Brath - Daily Painter of Pennsylvania

All Is Well With A Candle In The Window
President James Buchanan's Home in Lancaster PA
by Mary Beth Brath

Finally - finished. I enjoyed an awesome day of plein air painting with members of the Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters recently. I had most of the painting finished on site but I needed to adjust some angles, put a candle in the window and simplify colors.

I was intrigued by this quiet rear entrance covered with a very healthy grape vine. There was no candle in the window - that was my doing. The "grape vine" of gossip surrounding Buchanan's presidency is also quite healthy. My candle symbolizes peace and assurance that all is well.

Hemlock Valley Original Plein Air Painting by Mary Beth Brath - Daily Painter of Pennsylvania

Hemlock Valley Plein Air by Mary Beth Brath
10x8" Acrylic on Masonite

Last week was full of painting and family fun. Northwestern PA is such a joy. I rode my bike packed with plein air supplies down a dirt road and set up on one of my favorite bridges. I used to swim in this creek as a child.

Iris #10 includes more action in the background than the other paintings in the series. I changed the colors a few times and am quite pleased with the final result.
