"Kestrel" by Debra Tritt Kreiger

11"x15" watercolor on 140lb arches paper
I love to paint wildlife, especially when I actually get to meet my subject. I met this beautiful kestrel at the Charleston Aquarium. They call him Phoenix because his talons were burned when he landed on a live wire. His accident prevents him from being released back into the wild. He was a joy to see and talk to! In the wild he would be a little thinner, but I chose to paint him as beautiful as I saw him.
I also incorporated a new technique I learned from Luke Buck which really gives it a painterly feel.
If interested in purchasing please e-mail me at debra@debkreiger.com. To see more of my work go to www.debkreiger.com.

"Sea Turtle Study" By Debra Tritt Kreiger

Sea Turtle Study 10"x8.5" on 140lb Arches paper
In preparation for a larger painting I just finished up this head study of a green sea turtle. The colors are exaggerated but the anatomy is accurate. I just fell in love with her as she was sunning herself on a Hawaiian beach. They are extraordinary creatures but they are endangered. Sea turtles have been on this earth so long they have seen the dinosaurs come and go, but they might not survive the cruel hands of our modern society if things don't change.

Untitled" By Debra Tritt Kreiger

15"x11" watercolor on Arches 140lb paper

This is part of a nature/seashore series I'm working on. I'm at a loss for a title. If anyone can give me some suggestions I'd appreciate it. This was fun to paint and will look great with the deceased crab I painted prior. We all know everything is here for a purpose in this great circle of life.

Just finished with this painting of a mother robin, who was in residence in our yard. She seemed very young and inexperienced as she made several nest in our tree. I placed her on a beautiful rose-of-sharon branch that I had photographed from our friend Petra's yard.

'Watercolor Study of a Male Widow Skimmer (Libellula luctuosa)'

Transparent Watercolor in 10" x 8" Frame on Crescent Mat Board
Non-Professional Photograph

Getting ready for a Dragonfly Exhibit in Lancaster.
Next is a Female Banded Pennant.

I am still trying to work with my new computer
and am finally able to add a new entry.
My tried and true Windows XP antique
died of old age, and I had to order a ne one from Dell.

I taped the painting in one of my frames lying around to get the effect
of no matting- which I am starting to do on many
of my originals. Thought I would use the photo on our blog.

'Watercolor Study of a Marble Trout (Salmo marmoratus)'

Transparent Watercolor on Cresent Mat Board. Image Size: 16" x 6.5"
Non-Professional Photograph

Rare trout species from the Gorisk Region of Slovenia, found
in the Julian Alps in the Soca River Basin. The second largest
trout in Europe getting over 30 " in length.

I am starting to paint on a larger scale. Almost double what I had done for the
first 50 species of fish that I painted. I gives me the ability to add even
more detail to the painting. Much of the research was from
Dan Sheppard's TV Flyfishing Show "Wild on the Fly".
He is based out of Montana, and gave me wonderful
insight into this rare species.

I was fortunate to be asked to be the Featured Artist

for an event for Fly Fishing for people in the industry
and key personel from all over the state. It was quite an honor
(and great PR for my fish paintings!)
Plus- they set me up! All I did was show up and paint.
