This is the finished green sea turtle I was painting at Brainvessel{The Gallery} during the Best Kept Secrets Tour. This is one of many green sea turtles I was fortunate to see on our last trip to Maui. I just have fallen in love with these magnificent creatures. All the sea turtles are endangered, and it is all because of mans careless habits. If we all stopped using plastic bags it would benefit all the ocean creatures. If we stopped dumping trash in the ocean that would be even better.

 Here is one of many inspired paintings from Maui! This green sea turtle came right up to us as we were sitting on the beach.  He/she has been painted to be forever enjoyed and appreciated by everyone. Just watching them get out of the water is amazing. I'm blessed to have had the opportunity to see them like this. I can say the turtle conservation efforts seem to be working. "Honu" Hawaiian green sea turtle 24"x18" watercolor on 300lb Arches paper

I have only seen a few green turtles in person but they have left an big impact on me. I was blessed to be able to photograph this turtle sunning on a Big Island beach in Hawaii. I used these photos to compose this painting. Doing some further research I found the Hawaiian sea turtle is called honu by the native Hawaiians. Hope you enjoy this painting. I think this is one of my favorites.

In preparation for a larger painting I just finished up this head study of a green sea turtle. The colors are exaggerated but the anatomy is accurate. I just fell in love with her as she was sunning herself on a Hawaiian beach. They are extraordinary creatures but they are endangered. Sea turtles have been on this earth so long they have seen the dinosaurs come and go, but they might not survive the cruel hands of our modern society if things don't change.

I painted this green sea turtle from a photo I took from a black sand beach on the Big Island of Hawaii. What a wonderful site to see. She was posing so nicely for me in the afternoon sun. The black sand beach was an amazing site to see. I'm planning on going back to do more research!
