Spent the morning with my buddies painting at Fort Hunter looking at the river and the Rockville Bridge. What a fantastic day! Had to dust off the acrylics, but didn't do too bad for the first time out this year. I got most of the painting finished and only had to add some bling when I got home.

"A Summer Morning" by Debra Tritt Kreiger
This is a painting I did on Monday in Liz's backyard. How lucky is she! It was a beautiful sunny morning to paint along the Conodoquinet. yard garden. What a nice way to kick off Camp Hill plein air. I was
really happy with this one and only had to add a few more lights when I
got it home.

Victory Garden, en plein air, by Dianne Lorden
The title, aside from being a nod to Memorial Day, reflects that this garden does indeed represent a victory. At one time, someone had planted it with many sun-loving perennials. But, it has languished in the shade for years and we've never seen any of them bloom. During the past two years, we've had to do a lot of tree removal. One of the outcomes has been the absolute miracle of what this flower bed has accomplished this spring! I'm so happy for the plants - especially the peonies and iris - for finally reaching there potential. I've only captured some of what grows here, which also includes hosta, everlasting peas, ferns and Solomon's Seal. The bed is situated along a national park fence. On the other side is a meadow and monuments: the only such location within the Borough of Gettysburg.

This was my first painting of the spring season. I was painting with the
SVPAP from Fort Hunter. I was walking in the park looking for a good
spot to paint and came upon a gentleman who had just taken a morning
walk along the banks of the river. There was a flurry of activity from
the seagulls on the river. He said they were feasting on the newly
hatched may flies. That was the inspiration for this painting!

"Morning Sunshine"and "Sun Struck" By Debra Tritt Kreiger

I was happy to be able to paint with my friends from the SVPAP the last
two Mondays. Thanks to Petra who was kind enough to share her wonderful
property with us. I was drawn to the shapes the
shadows made on the barn and the color. I liked having the flowers in
partial shade in the foreground. This is part of Petra Wirth's barn and
was painted plein air. Thank you Petra!
"Sun Struck" 8x10 Acrylic on a canvas panel
I wanted to capture the wonderful sun light that was
highlighting the bright red bee balm that was in full bloom. As the sun
kisses little areas of the grasses, tree leaves and shows us the stumps
and rock hiding in the shadows. The curve of the tree just framed
everything perfectly. There is a stream flowing behind the flowers. Very
peaceful!

I thought you might like to see where we spent the day today. I have a personal friend who told us we could come out to paint any time, so I took him up on it today. It was a glorious, sunny day with a chilly breeze once in awhile. My new plein air umbrella gave me fits for at least an hour...that did it for me. I came home and ordered a shadebuddy. I saw Claire's and made up my mind to get one.

The day was overcast and cloudy with rain threatening to dampen our plein air painting at Two Mile House and for the McClain Celtic Festival. The rains never came, artists continued to arrive and music from the bagpipes and singers entertained us all.I painted underneath the grape arbor near the back door of the historic Two-Mile House. This location was chosen because of the darkness underneath the arbor and hints of yellow greens that glowed through it. The purple-blue grapes were ripening and mixed among them were dots of green and red from the grapes that were still to mature.

Every day, during the month of July, the large pink and white Dinner Plate Hibiscus nod their heads in greeting to everyone who enters or exits my home. They are quite the conversation piece. The season for the Red Minarda bee balm are nearly over but Gladiolas are just beginning to bloom. The sweet scent of the Oriental Lilies will make you turn your head to find out where that wonderful aroma is coming from.
For many years, the Japanese Beetles have munched their way all over these Hibiscus; but this year I haven't seen any. This year has been the best and most abundant flush of the “Dinner Plate” flowers. Perhaps it’s because of the hot days we have been having they love so much. Lasting only one day and into the night, the blossoms will have wilted by morning and will fall all day long. The next buds will be opening too and there will be another beautiful sight to see “just outside my crooked gate” by morning.

I usually paint from photographs; but today was so beautiful, sunny and nice I thought I'd try to paint my azalea bush that is just now blooming. I've photographed it for several years now planning always with the intention to paint it; but it just didn't happen. Until today.
Today was a perfect day and the azaleas invited me to sit awhile as they posed for me.
