Behind the music by Barbara Durbin

My daughter Kristy has many talents, one of which is drumming. In Venice there are masks displayed  in many of the windows and of course she gravitated to one displaying musical notes. You can't hide from your passions...

Waiting For Lunch in Venice Italy by Barbara Durbin

I was asked to participate in an auction for Habitat for Humanity so I painted this watercolor of a back canal in Venice. I had lunch there several times with my husband and daughter hence the title "Waiting for Lunch."

Ballet in Blue by Barbara Durbin

I learned today that my watercolor Ballet in Blue was awarded Honorable Mention in the York Art Association's Figurative Works Exhibit. I'm very excited about this award, which is my first, and have to give a shout out to Kathy Michels who continues to support my painting growth and keeps me focused about entering exhibits!
The young lady was a joy to paint and has such beauty that I hope I did her justice.

Fall Feast by Barbara Durbin

This is my first watercolor that did not have a person in it. Also my first done as a signiture member, although I didn't know it when I started to paint it. My husband took the shot so I painted it for him and for fun. Something different and out of my comfort zone.

Fall Feast by Barbara Durbin

I have been having a difficult time with the background. I started lighter, went darker, and then lighter again. I'm back to darker with lighter washes. All that washing on a watercolor means I'm done for awhile and my edges are going to have to be cleaned up afterwards and my green stems lightened. I really didn't see this piece creating this much trouble when I started. Ugh.

Faviola by Barbara Durbin

Faviola by Barbara Durbin

My first post at DPP... Faviola. An Aruban cook who seemed to think I was amusing. Little did she know I was about to snap her photo and paint her.
