in the window with an old tall glass jar on the sill.

Love these French windows... there is a lot to catch
your eye. The window box with flowers, worn shutters,
the reflection in the glass panes, a little green from a bush
on the right, and a building that is just plain old!

I wanted your eye to go right into the window,
to the lamp. Then come back outside, plenty to
look at. I want to point out that there is a lack of
strong shadows in this one. The day was overcast
and drizzly. Can you feel it?

I was concentrating on getting the greens just
right. Took several extra hours on them.

in New Castle, DE. It has interesting peeling paint on the
window frame and my customary brick work.
But look at that light across the sail. Great depth.

Belsnickle #2 ~ Andy Smith, watercolors

I wanted to try a close up of this pottery
belsnickle. It is a matter of scaling it
up and there is more detail in the closeup
view. I also like the way the folds in the
curtain turned out.
The rule in watercolor is no white paint!
All the white is the paper.

I had a question about my paper...
Each watercolor is painted on Arches
300lb Cold Press paper. It is the only paper
I use. I use transparent watercolors
currently using Davinci. I occasionally
add ink to the wash. I paint in a series of
washes to build color, creating shadows
and a strong use of light.
Feel free to ask me anything! I enjoy questions.
