PEACEFUL OASIS By Cecelia Lyden

oil/board
12x18

Two days of beautiful weather in a serene location made this plein air paintout a most pleasant experience. I was situated in a shady area with only fleeting moments of sunlight peeking through the leaves. Consequently, there were some strong darks under the rocks, etc. I was having difficulty mixing colors dark enough. Then I remembered, in a workshop with Ron Donoughe, his suggestion of a mixture of Thalo Green and Alizarin Crimson to make black. I used this to darken other colors. It worked. Thank you, Ron.

SPRING BEGINS By Cecelia Lyden

FORT HUNTER BOAT LAUNCH
oil/canvas board
11x14
Eight of us showed up for our first "official" paintout at the Fort Hunter boat launch with lots of friendly greetings, after a long, cold winter. The landscape was not very interesting -bare trees, no flowers in bloom, some sunshine .But the temperature was so beautifully warm, and as artists we can "see" color in the distant hills and in the shadows and sunlight on the nearby trees. All considered, this was a very pleasant and satisfying first paintout.

AZALEAS IN BLOOM By Cecelia Lyden

oi/stretched canvas
11x14
Another cold and this time raw day for our paintout at Italian Lake in Harrisburg. But the azaleas were bright and warm and some of the blossoms on the trees were still hanging on. I was able to get the composition down and the canvas covered with the colors ,before my hands stopped working, but most of this painting was completed indoors. PS Boy, do I hate changes and this new method of posting!
