Daily Painters of Pennsylvania member artist Linda Young at Mt Gretna

I will have a booth at Mt. Gretna in the Emerging Artist's area on Pennsylvania Avenue.  The booth is number three.  The display will comprise mostly of original, one of a kind framed paintings, matted originals and a few prints.

Please stop by rain or shine to see my exhibit.  This is the first time for a weekend show for me and I'm excited to have been accepted into it.

The Three Little Figs on Broadway by Linda Young artist

I wanted to paint the figs in watercolor; but had a lot of difficulty with it for one reason or another.  On my own blogspot, this is the painting I previously wrote about being a mess. I already had painted the bright yellow colors in the back ground-- I just had to figure out what to do next.

So, late very last night, I continued to work on it and eventually my imagination got the best of me!  'Quite possibly', I thought, 'these "three little three figs" could be standing on a Broadway stage singing their hearts out to a live audience'. The background became bright stage lights and the table was now their stage. Suddenly, they took on a life of their own getting eyes and mouths. Oh yes, they were now real crowd pleasers.

Whether you feel they are crowd pleasers or not, it doesn't matter. All I know is I had fun getting carried away and letting an exaggerated imagination take over to finish this piece.

Strange things happen in the wee hours of the morning!  It makes me smile, regardless.

I wonder though; would one say, for good luck to these broadway performers, "break a stem"?

From a photo reference of sunlight on waves; as I painted this, I remembered hearing the hiss of the wind and waves as they crashed to the shore. I painted with many layers of masking to get the depth and see-through waves; I really like the colors in this one.  This is one of several wave paintings that will be shown at the Mount Gretna Outdoor Art Show on August 21, 22.  Stop by booth E#3 to check out what I have to offer.

Freedom; beginning with splashes of color, layering, waiting and being patient, studying, lifting and finally putting in the details of what I see in my abstract paintings. I hope by these selective final strokes to help you visualize the subject I have painted in this abstract study. How long will the motivation be there to continue painting the sea? Who knows; but for now I present to you the third of my abstract paintings.

Local Carlisle emerging artist accepted into Mt. Gretna Outdoor Art Show

I just received notification I was accepted into the Emerging Artist's area of the 35th Annual Chautauqua Mount Gretna Outdoor Art Show scheduled for August 21 and 22, 2010.


I'm so pleased and honored to have been selected.
