Plein air painting on vacation, Linda Young

copyright Linda Young 2012
A morning scene from the Seashore Campground near Cape May, NJ
plein air watercolor 9" x 12"
A pot filled with flowers, an anchor tied to a railing and stairs with abstract shapes all touched in some way by the morning sunlight that filtered through the trees.  Two mornings in a row, I worked on this painting to be able to capture the light.  It was the light that made abstract shapes on the stairway and the bright light behind the pot where the direct light fell unobstructedly that drew me in.    I had just one visitor stop by as I painted and we could only communicate with smiles and gestures.  You see, she was Canadian and spoke in her native french-sounding language; but she smiled, pointed and said "Oh! Arteest"...  I returned her "compliment" by saying "Oui, merci!" and smiled back at her.  Our smiles to each other were universal no matter what language we spoke.

Painted on location at the Seashore Campground in Rio Grand, New Jersey.  The campground is located near Cape May.  This was the scene by the deck of the permanent campsite of "Captain Morgan".

Nice you had a chance to paint on vacations. Going to different locations is always inspiring - and especially the shore.
