PINK PEONIES By Cecelia Lyden

oil/stretched canvas
11x14

This has been a magical spring. It's as if a garden fairy waved a wand over the shrubs and perennials.A hydrangea that, in seven years, had never produced more than one or two blooms, suddenly burst forth with scores of blossoms.  The peony bushes, also, were laden with many heavy pink flowers. I cut this bouquet right before a torrential rainfall. Torrential rainfalls devastate peony petals. The petals wilted before I finished the painting, but the painting will endure and be a reminder of this magical spring.

My all-time favorite painting of yours, Cecelia. It has been an amazing year for flowers - I just mentioned to a friend that even the common orange day lilies are phenomenal this year.

the fowers are especially lyrical and echo the movement of the design on the crockery!
