A Study in Red by Susie Morrell

6 x 6 unframed
Susie Morrell

I am finding by working small and focusing on one major hue group I am able to work out problems and find solutions without feeling overwhelmed by size. A still life presents interesting challenges in value study. Instead of moving toward the center of the color wheel and using more neutral color, I find myself wanting to move around the outside of the color wheel to keep the color vibrant yet still achieving light and shadow. Moving toward warmer orange gives me a feeling of light and moving toward red/violet gives me a feeling of shadow.
