The first day in A Painting Journal by Linda Young

The first page

This is a real first for me; to make a painting journal.  I got the idea from Joe Miller's "Joe's journals, The Art & Tales of a Sojourner".  He explains "journaling can take many forms, from simply keeping a diary of today's weather to a more elaborate journal of painting, photos, clippings, etc. and recording whatever one wishes" .  Joe did his journals in watercolor and writing.  If you're interested, go to this link at Cheap Joe's to purchase it or see more.  It's interesting to read and to see what he experienced in his travels.

My first page was started this morning in a prior post on my own blogspot; I sat down tonight to kick up the values a notch, to add notes for color suggestions for the subjects and to write about my dog kicking me as I painted. She finally succeeded and got total possession of the couch and my undivided attention.

I'm glad I got started on this journal before the month of January ended.  At least I can say I tried to start the year out right with good intentions of making this an ongoing  project.

My motto - 'Better late than never!'. I hope that you will show us your posts, Linda - I would love to see this as it proceeds.

Great idea, Linda! I hope it works out well for you and, like Claire, I'd enjoy seeing other entries as the year unfolds.

I hope it works out too. I'm committed now--and will have to be accountable to you to see it through.

Yes - I look forward to seeing more entries on the blog. Are you familar with Lilias Trotter? She was a friend of John Ruskin's that created wonderful jounals. You can buy the journals online.

Mary Beth, No I am not familiar with either one. I'll check them out.

Is'nt it fun to be an artist-we see a painting everywhere we look!

Yes Charlotte. The hard part is deciding what not to paint.

Which, if this sketch goes any farther than the sketchbook, will have to be decided upon.
