SUNNY DAY IN NEWPORT By Cecelia Lyden

acrylic on stretched canvas
11x14
I never suspected that when I started this painting on a warm, late summer day that I would be finishing it on one of the coldest days of this late fall [ not officially winter yet]. Several small paintings and holiday obligations after I started it, I finally pushed myself to finish it. Now to resume wrapping Christmas gifts and writing out cards.

Cecelia, this is wonderful! One-point perspective is dramatic, but sometimes it's a challenge to maintian that artistic story while using it - rather than ending up with something that resembles a classroom exercise.
But your streetscape is charming and bright; I'm ready to keep on walkin'!
I also love your smooth style.

Cecelia, I really enjoyed taking an eye-walk down your summer-time street. It is a beautiful painting full of lively colors and warmth. Love it.

Dianne--I am a retired elementary school art instructor. One point linear perspective was in the art curriculum for 5th grade. Their drawings were stiff because we used rulers to keep them "on track" --I just eyeballed this perspective and that kept the street scene looser.

Really a lovely image and someplace I could be on a day like today.

Cecelia, this is one of my favorites! The interesting details extend well into the background yet it is still loose and painterly. I just love it!

I love this, and am so glad that I got to see it IRL in your studio. This is wonderful, and the unpaved area before the sidewalk is handled so masterfully.
