Sunflowers for my secret sister
4 x 6"
Watercolor by artist Linda Young
Sunflowers turn to follow the sun. Their open faces symbolize the sun itself, conveying warmth and happiness, adoration and longevity.
This small painting was created especially for my secret sister. At my church at the beginning of the year, our fellowship group exchanges names to get a secret sister for that year. On a sheet of paper, they find out what our hobbies are, our favorite colors, magazines we like and our favorite flowers among many other things. Then, during the year we send cards, give inexpensive gifts if we want to, celebrate their birthdays and anniversaries and other special occasions; all sent anonymously.
My secret sister said she loves to decorate and her favorite flower is the sunflower. Tonight, I painted one for her and tomorrow around noon, she'll find out who her "secret sister" is. I hope she likes these sunflowers which will be titled in her name tomorrow when I get back online again.
The person who had my name this year gave me all kinds of new art and drawing supplies. I'll find out who she is tomorrow too.

I was surprised when I saw how small this painting is! It is beautiful at any size- but - as a miniature - it is a treasure!
This is beautiful, Linda! And what a nice idea, to have a "secret sister" throughout the year. I'm sure yours will treasure this piece for years to come.
Woo-hoo SUNFLOWERS! it's so good to see them!
Thanks Thom, Amy and Bertie. She loved the painting. Bertie, those sunflowers are a real challenge to paint! I admire yours even more after painting just this one!
What a lovely post. Your sunflowers are so happy. Great composition!
Thanks Mary Beth
My secret sister, Doris, loved this gift. She kept looking at it and smiling. Makes me happy she's pleased.
