Texting - A Sign of our Times - The process to get to the painting - Kathy Michels

I love the photograph and knew I had to paint it. I found this young pair and they were oblivious to my camera. Many of my photos are set up for specific compositions. Unfortunately, this was not - this seems to be true to life. The space between them shows how some people get so involved in texting they lose sight of what they have. It just made me wonder how many young couples face texting as a wedge. I cannot wait to start painting this one!

Nice drawing Kathy. I think texting these days to each other is really sad in a way; one can't hear how the other person's voice sounds when they text the message. I see sadness and lonliness in this girl's face. Great start to a wonderful painting, I'm sure.

Your drawing is fresh and full of gesture and substance. really like the young man lost in his hand held device. Will be great to watch the process - hope you post a few images as the painting builds.
