This is my first attempt at using soft pastels, a side trip from my usual Oil medium.

"TISHA'S GARDEN" An Original Pastel Painting by Clare Klaum

Yesterday we were invited to paint at Tisha Sheldon's home.  She is a new member of SVPAP.  She has a beautiful home with gorgeous gardens and a magnificent view.  There were 5 of us, including Tisha, who painted there.
We had a brief shower right at noon so we took a lunch break.  Tisha had made us a delicious lunch!  What an unexpected surprise!  When I chose this spot, only one of the 5 Spirea bushes were still blooming.  The others had just finished.  So, I took artistic license and made them all blooming. I did two thirds of the painting there.  We had to leave at 2pm, so I finished it this morning in my studio.   
Thank you so much Tisha for a wonderful day.  I look forward to painting with you again.

LIGHT BEYOND THE FOREST an Original Pastel Painting by Clare Klaum

This painting is from a photograph that I took at Naylor Observatory in Lewisberry in August.  Our grandson was visiting us and we took him there to observe the stars.  They are open to the public on Sunday nights in the summer, weather permitting.  It was a beautiful evening and it was approaching sunset when we arrived.  You could see the light from the sunset through these beautiful trees on their property and when I looked at my photo there was an aqua/blue tint to the leaves and branches of the trees nearest to the inside edges.  I bumped up the color a little to make it more dramatic.  This painting is for sale and will be at Carlisle Arts Learning Center  for their members show "Going Green".  The opening reception is Friday February 13 at 6:30. This exhibit runs from February 13 through March 14. 
                               On U-Art Sanded paper 17 3/4" x 14 3/4"

Latest pastel study, this time on canvas-covered panel.

Nice support for it and easy to frame, but will have to put more primer next time.

It may work even better this way.

Pastel on Colourfix Paper

This is the first painting I tried on this Colourfix paper. This is the Sand color from the warm pack which I think highlighted the colors in the mare and foal.
