Drums Etc. Watercolors by Daily Painter Bertie Brown

Drums Etc.
original musical motif watercolor w/drums, guitars: 5" x 7"

Little Drummer Boy
original musical motif watercolor: 5" x 7"

a musician displays
exhibitionist ways
but it’s all okay
‘cause music filled days
and nights do remain
quite high on our list
of things we like best
so please don’t insist
we cease and desist!

Trio Trouble Musical Motif Watercolors by Daily Painter Bertie Brown

Trio Trouble
original musical motif watercolor w/horn, trumpet, trombone: 11" x 14"

the task of the horn
is to cast off all scorn
and proudly display
his technical ways
like a peacock, he struts
all his finery stuff
and if that’s not enough
he’ll wail in disgust
his penchant for flair
o’ershadows the pair
of brass partners there
but he doesn’t care

Musically Inclined/Piano, Guitars Watercolor Instruments by Daily Painter Bertie Brown

Musically Inclined/Piano, Guitars

original musical motif watercolor: 6" x 6"

Sophie and I

are anxious to try

our hand on the keys

of a keyboard, if you please

but wait, strumming seems

to be pleasing, you see

so might we try both

we’ll make music....we hope

Licks, Whips and Brassy Tricks Watercolors by Bertie Brown - Art is Instrumental

Licks, Whips and Brassy Tricks

original musical motif watercolor w/trumpet,trombone: 11" x 14"

Sophie Says

I want a quick

lollipop lick

while I ponder a bit

over licorice whips

it’s too bad, you know

that trumpets and ‘bones

can’t partake of these

and still play with ease!

Lollipop Licks and Brassy Politics Watercolors by Bertie Brown - Art is Instrumental

Lollipop Licks and Brassy Politics

original musical motif watercolor w/brass trio: 11" x 14"

menage a trois

if the trombone’s in charge

the trumpet won’t play

the horn won’t say

if he’ll go or stay

such is the way

our world behaves today

compromise is out

dissonance has clout

there could be peace and harmony

‘cause trios can play charming-ly

Rhythm & Blues Watercolors by Bertie Brown - Art is Instrumental

Rhythm & Blues

original musical motif watercolor w/drums, piano, bass: 11" x 14"

There’s rhythm in Blues

a keyboard and bass

they’re hoping that, too

there’s payment in cash

they pass around notes

like we did in school

but these notes are ‘cool’

they follow the rules!

Brass Class Watercolors by Bertie Brown - Art is Instrumental

Brass Class

original watercolor still life with trumpet, trombone, horn: 18" x 22"

Do you suppose

a brass trio knows

the power they have

when they take the stand?

with no bounds they can

sound like a big band

they get it just right

their notes high and bright

with jazzy quick licks

and trombone slide tricks

and then comes the horn

who sounds so forlorn

with whalin’ so true

you weep with him too

good thing that we’ve got

our sweet lollipop

and licorice whips

to make those tears stop

Jazzy Tricks and Lollipop Licks Watercolors By Bertie Brown - Art is Instrumental

Jazzy Tricks and Lollipop Licks

original musical motif watercolor w/trumpet, trombone, drums and piano: 22" x 13"

Now Sophie and I

are listening to

jazz and the blues

on Sophie’s i-tunes

it’s time that we stray

from classical ways

Mozart and Bach

are great but we’ve got

to broaden our view

with music that’s new

and classical brass

can play jazz with class!

Woodwinds at Rest Watercolor Still Life by Bertie Brown - Art is Instrumental

Woodwinds at Rest

original watercolor musical motif still life: 18" x 22"

Well

the music said “rest”

so the woodwinds obeyed

they rested their best

and quietly laid

their reeds

and their keys

right down

with no frown

then I got my stuff

my paint pan and brush

turned on my i-tunes

and worked until dusk

now when I was done

I took just one quick

lollipop lick

then settled to munch

a black licorice whip!

Quints' Jam Watercolors by Daily Painter Bertie Brown - Art is Instrumetnal

Quints' Jam

original watercolor musical motif/woodwind quintet: 14" x 17"

licorice whips

and lollipop licks

glasses and globes

and woodwinds also

it’s relative you know

but one thing’s for sure

this group needs a horn

with full rounded bore

to balance the sound

of notes up and down

and licorice whips

are relative links

to lollipops on sticks

Baubles and Bells Watercolors by Bertie Brown - Art is Instrumental

Baubles and Bells 2

original watercolor musical motif: 17" x 17"

the same

somehow

yet different

so now

I’m gonna move on

to another, without

a horn, as no doubt

twill be easier left out!

Baubles and Bells Watercolors by Bertie Brown - Art is Instrumental

Baubles and Bells

original watercolor musical motif with horn: 17" x 20"

so now it’s done

and I had fun

‘though there were some

solutions that

to be exact

were just a tad

surprising, so

I really hope

it’s fit to show

if not, you’ve got

to let me know......

BB’12

Toast!

cheers to beginnings

for 2000-1-2

I do hope my paintings

turn out well, I do

so here’s to good starts

whatever they be

as wet paper + paint

spread out before me

may each have a touch

of magic I trust

as I skillfully

wield my paint brush!

It's All Relative Watercolors by Bertie Brown - Art is Instrumental

It's All Relative

original watercolor musical motif w/drums, piano, trumpet, guitars: 17" x 11"

It’s relative-ly

a new work, you see

with something that’s old

a shape big and bold

and some that are new

with int’resting blues

borrowed from yet

a past series set

hmmm...

it sounds just like

a pre-wedding sight!

Musically Inclined Series by Daily Painter Bertie Brown Original Musical Motif Watercolor Still Life

Musically Inclined

original musical motif watercolor still life: 17 1/2"w x 22 1/2"h

Dynamic Duo

That’s the name

The horn and violin

Were given in their fame

They play well together

Then each plays alone

One plucks and bows

The other buzzes into a mouthpiece for tones

With fervent fingers flying

Over keys and bridge

The audience is left sighing

Applauding all that they did!
