This 8"x8" watercolor was started en plein air during our recent visit to the Eastern Shore (Va. on the Delmarva) but a sudden shower chased us indoors. I had the sky and water done, the planking sort of done and the grass washed in. I never got a photo of the scene, so finished it up basically by memory, as we went home before I ever wandered back to this particular spot. (Those two dark gray features are gnarly pieces of driftwood - I really wish I'd photographed them because their natural beauty is hard to reproduce from memory without looking just plain silly.) Still, for me, the scene does evoke the peaceful bluff above the Chesapeake Bay, so I wanted to try to complete it.
My work can be seen at South Mountain Sketchbook, where I have just attempted to add a blog :)

That has to be frustrating. Part of the reason I just don't care to paint out doors. I like working from photos and constructing things in doors. I will do color tests outside or bring things from outside inside, but I am definitely a studio artist. Still, this is very nice. The color of the water contrasts well with the wood. The wood is really nice. Looks like you had a great time! I can almost feel the ocean breeze!
Very pretty painting - I also love the way the water makes the wood stand out.
