High Waters by Jane Albin

                                                              "High Waters"
5"x7" Original Watercolor on 140# cold press paper

Today another Susquehanna River painting from a photo I took last spring.  This is from the St. Louis Street bridge.  It has been so humid and hot I have been hiding indoors.  Today, I went out to get the name of the garden I stood in last spring for yesterday's painting.  It is only four short blocks, not city blocks, away and I was dripping.
I wanted to do a summer plein air version but changed my mind....because of
the tiny snake that scared the crap out of me.

Big snake skin on the steps down to the water.
This and the poison ivy kept me up on the river bank.

Here is the view (high up on the bank) I might have painted from had the humidity been just a bit lower.         Yes I know...excuses , excuses.

I'm finding shady spots a great help this summer. I'm sure you will find a way to enjoy painting outdoors on your own terms. Soon the summer humidity will leave and we can all breath again.

Jane, this really made me laugh. I would have bolted as soon as I saw that snake :) You got a wonderful painting from your snake-free photograph. I really love the blues of the mountain, and the way they translate into your moving water.

Jane I was standing in the exact spot[ I think] on the river this past Friday-took a couple of pics and then quickly left in my air conditioned car--heat, high humidity, snakes, and don't forget the threat of mosquitoes carrying the dreaded West Nile virus--all plein air downers.

Jane, you know what's funny about this too? If you enlarge the snake photo, I can see the reflection of YOU in it's eye! (Spooky!)
Nice painting.

Great post Jane! I bought good hiking boots for plein air painting, but with this hot weather, sometimes I wear flip flops! Hmmmm.
