oil on paper
6"x6.5"
I have wanted to paint this steel mill in Bethlehem, PA forever, but up until recently the area has been a no-man's land. Bethlehem Steel was America's second largest producer of steel, but ceased operations in 1995.
The area was decrepit and void of humanity up until the Sands Casino was built in one of the old factory buildings. Now there are new and pretty tree-lined streets that wind through the entire industrial area, a visitor's center and a performance hall.
Walker Evans, my favorite photographer, spent time photographing Bethlehem in the 1930s.

Fabulous composition--wonderful arrangement of shapes, values and colors--it all looks great contrasted with the bright blue sky.
