Untitled Oil by Michael LeKites

This is nearly finished. I just have a little more on my lines as well as some highlights. I did most of the painting wet on wet. I'm at the point now where I need it to dry so I can refine some areas.
This is the inner main stairway of my old school which is set to be torn down any day now. Haven't titled it yet but I'm trying.  The doors open onto an inner court yard. It's all over grown now with weeds and trees.
I was able to tour the school with a few other people before they closed it off.
Oil on canvas, 11x14.

This is a really strong painting as it is. I can almost feel the emotion from you as the past entered this piece. The blue from the sky as it spills across the entry way is a nice contrasting cool to the warm inner space.

Thanks so much for the wonderful comments! Yes, this was pretty emotional to paint. There's a bit of controversy right now in town over the school being torn down as well. I was really fortunate to be able to take this final tour. Only a few of us were allowed in.

Yup, agree with Ron and the rest.
My sister was driving by our old elementary school as it was being put into dump trucks after it was torn down. She talked to one of the site workers and he brought her two bricks to save. One for me and one for her. It is just a brick, but one that I connect with...
