Red Admiral Butterfly by Dianne Lorden

I've escaped the house, gourd-crafting and my daughter's bridal shower preparations (getting close now!) for the past few beautiful days to renew myself with fresh sights and sounds. We clambered about the stony shores of Marsh Creek (plenty of poison ivy) and among the many wonderful treats was this smart little Red Admiral Butterfly, resting on the path. It didn't stray too far, so I was able to take a photo of it, which I later rendered in a small (8x8, hot pressed) watercolor for my nature journal.
Most of my nature journal entries have been photos this year, which makes me sad; I was somewhat better last year about creating original artwork for it. (I adore Edith Holden's Nature Notes and the look of all her delicate watercolors and entries.) My hope is that things will settle down soon so I can remedy that!

Wonderful Dianne. I surely know what it's like to be so busy it's hard to get everything painted! Great little painting and wonderful idea on the nature journal.

I love hearing about your nature journal, and that the last few days (there has been such beautiful weather) have been great for you. Lovely watercolor.

This is lovely and I love the sketchy vignette quality.
