Seagulls Watercolor in Progress by Kathy Michels

I have such a blast taking photos for my artwork. I went to the river armed with crackers. There were tons of birds, ducks and geese. I would throw the crackers straight up and all of these birds would head towards me. It was such a blast. The main bird here is a very old seagull. I caught him in many pictures. We were required to read Jonathon Livingston Seagull in junior high and he just reminded me so much of him. I loved the photograph when this old seagull emerged from the wings of the other seagull. Out of that photo came this painting I am working on. He was so old and there was just such an eery feel to the photo that I really needed to depict that in the painting.

Kathy, this gives me an eerie feeling when I look into those eyes of the old bird. I read the book about Jonathon too and I think you captured him in your painting.
