Long time coming, by Amy Lindenberger

There truly seems to be something about the months at the end of the year that keep me from posting, and this time it nearly carried over to include the first month of the new year, as well! But I didn't want to see that happen, so I was determined to get a post up this month.

Nearly two years ago I did a series of posts on this blog detailing the development of an experimental piece using watercolor and colored pencil on masa paper, which I eventually titled Peony Dreams, shown at the top of this post. Recently I learned that this piece was accepted into the Colored Pencil Society of America's online exhibition, Explore This! 8. Since the painting has been sold for more than a year and a half, an online exhibition is the only kind it could be accepted into, at this point. This is my second acceptance into this international exhibition; the exhibition can be found online beginning February 1 and running through January 31 of 2013, at www.cpsa.org.

Then,  a little more than a year ago, I posted two more paintings begun using the same technique on masa paper, including the piece seen in the middle of this post. That post was titled Just the Beginnings, and I had hoped to follow up with completions on both those pieces in the following months. But life and other artistic demands intervened, and I'm only now getting back to those pieces. So the third image posted above represents the second stage of this particular painting -- a winter woods scene featuring a young beech tree. At least with this much done I'm confident I can complete it in a timely fashion, this go-round!
