Not so boring Boer Goats by Linda Young

"That might be my name; but I am not a boer (bore)" says the goat.
Because of a recent workshop I took with Judi Betts, it inspired me to look through my photo references to locate some goat and other domestic animal photos.  This is a drawing of a doe, or nanny goat and the little kids around her.   This will be an experimental piece in an attempt to practice what I was taught in her workshop.  Here's my goats sketch for today. (The actual painting is posted beneath it)

Title: "Boer Goats" not so boring
Size: 9" x 12"
Watercolor on 140# Arches CP
This is the finished piece; painted with many layers upon layers of color.  Complimentary colors on top of complimentaries in and around each other; every brush stroke an experiment and play in freedom and the will to push a little farther.  I've loved painting this style so much, I'm planning more as time allows.

I want to say thank you to Judi Betts for teaching from your heart, Your new friend, Linda

It's so exhilarating tolearn a new method or "discover" and use a new color--your color work is subtle and beautiful.

It amy be a study, but it is my favorite of yours- to date! Plus - I love the subject. You really got a lot out of that class with Judi Betts!

The colors are lovely. I really like goats as subjects, and I really like this painting. (I took a not-so-boring photo of one goat chewing - accidentally - on another goat's tail. It's hysterical, but no one would believe it in a painting.)

Dianne, thank you. Your goats photo sounds hysterical for sure!
Charlotte, the goats couldn't have posed in a better way.
Thank you!
