FIELDS OF GOLD
Original Plein Air
Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Fields of Gold'
Oil Plein Air
12 x 9 on Raymar linen panel

On Tuesday of this week, artists met at Nancy and Eric Olson's
beautiful Windmill Creek Studio farm that included four acres
of golden sunflowers.  The day was gorgeous, and the vistas
incredible every way you turned.  It was an artists' dream...
The most difficult part of the day was to decide what to paint,
because there were so many choices.   The most unique
part of the day was that we experienced the ground tremors
of the earthquake that travelled up and down the east coast.

I decided to paint the field of sunflowers with a view of
the tree-line and mountains behind.  I loved the different
shades of blue in the background, and how they provided a
nice cool backdrop to all of that lovely yellow.  This is entirely
plein air, except for my signature which I added when I took it
out of my pochade box this evening to take a picture.

- Pictures from our day -

Artists at work.  Starting on the right - Linda Young,
Robert Hughes, Clare Klaum, and Jane Ramsey.

Clare Klaum gets right in the action to get a good photo.

Is that Linda Young in those sunflowers?  It was fun to
take a silly moment while we were scoping out painting sites!

Mary Beth Brath savoring the beautiful view, and
taking some pics for potential paintings.

Jane Ramsey gets the prize for travelling the farthest
to participate in this amazing day of painting.  Loved
having her there with us!

A day I am sure we will never forget...

Your painting is beautiful and looks like a fun time was had by all! I am sorry I was not able to join you that day. Hope the Olsen's will invite us back sometime.

It was a fun day getting knee deep "into" the sunflowers! Your painting is beautiful. I like how you handled the softness of the mountains and trees. Lovely sunflowers.

Thank you, Jane. Today I have been working on some small paintings from the bouquet of sunflowers I brought home with me from Nancy and Eric's farm. I am so very glad that you made the trek and we got a chance to paint together - so much fun!
