SUMMER SHADE AT FORT HUNTER By Cecelia Lyden

oil on panel

11x14

This painting was plein air started and inspired. But when I got back in my studio, I decided to reduce the size of the outbuilding. I needed to lengthen the path from the shaded gate area , where I sat, to the door. There was lots of sunshine and shade from huge trees at Fort Hunter that morning--garden gates and charming flower beds galore and plenty of quaint things and areas to paint.

I love the mystery of the shadows in the foreground, and how the eye is pulled into the painting by the sunlit building. This is terrific, Cecelia!

Great depth in this Cecelia, and I love the purple color on the gate.

Your sun-bleached palette in the background is a beautiful counter-point to the lushly saturated foreground. Your sparse use of lavender and pink opens-up the environment within your shadows. Nice painting, Cecelia!

I agree with the others, the purples, the inviting light at the building, muted colors... love it.
