"Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier" Watercolor & Ink by Charlotte Yealey

6x6
Watercolor and Ink
This is sort of an experimental piece where I inked in the background for a more dramatic look. I have done this in the past using black ink but this was a burnt umber that was more translucent.
This image will be featured on products in my Zazzle and Cafe Press Stores.

I like the muted tones of this, Charlotte. I'm teaching a workshop in MI this weekend about using colored pencil in a variety of unexpected ways, and it may be the lead-in for a second one about mixed media. As a result, I've been engrossed in the "experimental" and mixed media-type issues. So I'm curious: where does the watercolor come into play? In the details of the dog itself?

Yes, Amy, the dog was done in watercolor only and the background was done with ink. I sometimes use watercolor pencil on the main subject but I love to experiment.

The warmth from the ink as well as the opacity in the ink frame the poochie well.
