Red Cardinal and baby

Watercolor 7-1/2" x 6"

Unable to fly, the baby cardinal sits and waits for food hidden within the branches of the pine tree.  When the father returned for this feeding, the baby's excitement shook the little branch it was perched upon.  It's not long until the little ones can fly on their own.  I'm lucky to have several pine trees and a pond in my backyard to see many different birds fly in.

It's Winter now and very cold.  I don't see many of these until early Spring.  This was taken from a photo from last Summer.  I discovered I don't like painting pine needles!

Linda, I really like this little watercolor. It looks like the male cardinal (the father) is telling the baby to get out there and fly!

Yes, but the baby's saying "my wings are too tiny, I can't". It was just a little fuzz-ball.
