'Harbinger of Spring'

With another snow storm in the forecast for next week, my
mind turned to thoughts of Spring this morning. This is the
work I was able to get done today, and I hope to get it
finished tomorrow. I tried something very different today,
and am really pleased with the results.
Usually I tint my canvas with yellow ochre or another color
and let it dry before I begin a painting, but today I painted
much of the background area with a warm pinkish coral color,
then painted right on top of this wet layer. I applied the paint
loosely and was careful not to overwork it so it didn't get muddy.

beautiful! I like the way you worked your focal point and the warmth from the base color you used. Boy, am I ready for some real lilacs!
PERFECT! I love those few errant petals (on the table and inside the vase).. very sly! COME ON Spring...is this gonna be the longest winter ever????

Thanks everyone! I kept wondering what some of you were referring to when you mentioned the little petal inside the pitcher. I believe what you are seeing is the frosted flower design on the outside of the pitcher, which still needs some attention.
I will be thinking about this painting (and what else I want to do to finish it) as I drift off to sleep tonight, which is a good thing because last time I checked it was only 8 degrees outside...brrrrrrr...come on SPRING!

Claire-I love the way you blended some of the edges of the flowers behind the front lilacs into the background. All the elements of your painting are beautifully integrated.
