Poinsettia Class, Maria Kovalenko Leysens

Every year I teach a watercolor class on poinsettias. We usually go to Quality Gardens on rt 228 because the green house is so beautiful and they have a wonderful selection. This year we decided to shop for our poinsettias there and paint in the studio. It was nice, but not the same as being in a humid greenhouse, surrounded by greenery...
I may have to go just for myself.
This is my demonstration on quarter sheet watercolor paper.

Stunning, Maria! I just refreshed the site and saw your poinsettia - it was such a treat! I really like it that the leaves are more of a soft, off-red ... it gives a vintage appeal.

We use to live on St Croix USVI. They had a garden at a Museum Mansion that had a poinsettia maze with the bushed almost ten feet tall! Our own home had about 10 large bushes we loved. The Franzipanzi trees were in bloom at the same time.

Your painting not only reminds me of those wonderful times, but is a beautiful painting with great composition!
