Willow Mill Trees by Steve Wetzel

Willow Mill Trees
6"x8" oil on w/c paper

This is another one of my small oil studies which I completed during my plein air landscape class through the Harrisburg Art Association. I find working small preferable due to my limited painting time during class....and I'd much rather have a lot of completed small studies on hand than a lot of larger unfinished pieces. I found this particular grove interesting because of the way the one tree seemed to stand out in front of the others, and the depth that was created by the other trees as they receded into the grove. It also reminded me of a sentinel in a gaggle of canadian geese...that one goose who stands "lookout" as the others feed in safety.

This is a eal beauty--love the color palette, the diagonal placement and softness of the trees and the fabulous depth on such a small surface.

Welcome to the DPP. Really nice little painting. Trees defiantly have their own character and I like the way this one stands out.
