Pet portrait in watercolor by artist Linda Young

 13 x 16"
"Sassy Sammy"
Watercolor by Linda Young

This is the commissioned painting of a dog called "Samantha" who was also nicknamed Sassy and Sammy. They told me she was full of vitality up until the end of her life.  Just 6 months ago she could run like the wind.  According to her parents, she was their red head, with a red head personality, until she got old and tired and sleepy because of arthritis and pain 6 months ago. The owner came by today to do the final proof of coloring and got tears in her eyes and a little tremble in her voice when she saw "Sammy".  She said you've really got her alert spirit and it shows in her eyes.  This will be a birthday present for her "Daddy" on October 25.

Awww! How wonderful that your painting will give comfort to someone mourning the loss of a pet? You have preserved Sammy's memory forever in your beautiful painting. Nice work.

What a loving tribute to a beloved pet--You must care deeply for animals yourself to paint these pets with so much feeling.

Thank you Julie and Cecelia
Yes, I care for all kinds of animals; I've had many different four-legged ones in my life from the height of horses down to the size of a cat. I love them and the eyes in a painting for me are 90% of the feeling I try to express.

Very beautiful, Linda, the painting and the story. It is sad that our wonderful pet friends do not live as long as we do. We love them for a short time but love them in our hearts forever.

Thank you Mary Beth and Charlotte. All I need to do is read the "Rainbow Bridge" and I dissolve into a puddle of tears thinking about Abby. I lost her in January; but a special photo of her and me still hang on my wall...

Her 'Daddy' is going to absolutely love this. You've done such an amazing job that I look at this painting and feel the dog's spirit!
