6x8 oilSaturday was a great day for a plein air painting session. I went to Willow Mill Park and decided to focus in on this small section of rapids. I wanted to try to keep enough realistic detail in the painting for the viewer to understand what it was, but border slightly on something more expressive. I found myself getting into the markings and movements of my brush strokes as I followed the path of the water.

As soon as I saw this I thought the water should start moving. You really captured the flow of the water and splash. Very refreshing!

Julie--I don't think anyone could have painted this better--beautiful rich coloring, movement personified--it looks and feels like water rushing over rocks--such a wonderful little painting.

Julie, Great finish to this painting!! I didn't see the finished product before I left on Saturday...well done! The water reads very nicely!! Kudos on the completed work of the Samuel Lewis state park vista. It was only about half finished when I last saw it. Another great job.

Julie...thanks for the nice comments about the class. I'm very glad you've joined our Saturday morning group!! Take a look at Ron Donoughe's painting that he posted on July 10. It was a similar challenge to yours...very small focused area of a stream with water running over the rocks...I thought of yours as soon as I saw it.
