Ole' Joe by Patrica Kline

Watercolor - 23"x16", Arches Cold Press #150
Farewell to Thee Ole' Joe is a line from a great song from the Appalachian style of music. This is the music that digs deep into the roots of our beginnings as Americans. The banjo is a fretless Civil War era banjo and it's surrounded by the objects of the banjo's owner within a rustic cabin. It was a commission of a reproduction of a similar setup. Prints and postcards are available.

Nice composition and wonderful textures--the banjo reminds me of the song "Dueling Banjos", background score for the movie, Deliverence.

My husband plays the banjo and plays in the "old timey banjo style". I'll have to show this to him. Nice painting Patsy.
