Bachmanville, PA featured a classic barn for years. Barn swallow youngsters wait for feeding as they roost in the old window sill. The slight shadow of their parent shows on the wall below them. The stone used to build this barn is sometimes called ironstone due to the high iron content (red sandstone). Just a few miles east of Bachmanville, the limestone comes to the surface and the buildings show the difference by turning from red to grey. This barn foundation features both stone.
