"Whale Tales" By Debra Tritt Kreiger

"Whale Tales" 10"x14" on 140lb Arches Paper

I couldn't resist paniting this scene. We took a whale watching tour from Provincetown, MA. We saw about 20 humpback whales, mostly moms and babies. I tried to capture the signature beauty of these magnificent creatures. My subject is a little bottom heavy so I duplicated the whales tail shape using the sea birds and lightened up the left side of the sky to draw your eye back and around. It was a beautiful day!

I like your composition here. There is actually a lot of movement in the tail.
I am going to Maine in a few weeks and taking a whale watching tour is on our list. I hope I am lucky enough to have such a beautiful day.

I really like this compostition. The tail seems to have "movement".
I will be going to Maine in a few weeks and a whale watching tour in on our list of things to do. I hope I have as beautiful a day as you did.

Debra, this painting is really well done. The water is perfect and the drops of water and the splash is right on.

Very unique Deb. Galleries along the coast would do so well with your work.

This is beautiful, Deb. The way you arranged the birds at the top of the painting to reflect the shape of the whale's tail is pure genius!

I love that you included the blurred silhouette down into the water as it would appear in reality. I think this is so gorgeous!

WE WENT ALL THE WAY TO ALASKA AND DID NOT SEE ANY WHALES THAT CLOSE--LUCKY YOU TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PAINT SUCH A WONDERFUL PICTURE.

Thanks everyone. We were very lucky to have seen and photographed these wonderful creatures. And to be so close is right Cecelia. Julie I hope you have as good a day!
