Texting - A Sign of Our Times - Watercolor in Progress by Kathy Michels

I love beginning a new watercolor painting - especially when there are people involved. There is just so much enjoyment as I "wake up" that simple piece of paper. It is such a joy to bring life to one of my subjects. I start with the eyes and then proceed to work on the first few layers of skin. Normally I like to have my backgrounds decided ahead of time. With this particular piece I have tossed several things around from circus elephants to carnival rides and games to a basic blue sky. This watercolor piece is fairly large - a 40" x 25".

Great show of progression! Looks like I can reach out and feel the fur on the stuffed bear!
I can't wait to see this piece completed (hopefully in person).

I like the idea of a simple background like the sky. It creates in my mind a mood where her mind might be wandering to as he texts away oblivious to her being there.
