Laurel Water, oil on panel, 5x7, by Ron Donoughe

This is a small study I did a couple weeks ago in the Laurel Highlands near Ligonier. It was an overcast day and the rain was approaching. You could just feel it. That is why I decided to work on this tiny panel. Sure enough, about 45 minutes into this it started to thunder and lightning. Then came the rain, a real down pour. No time to clean up, just grab it all and go the half mile out of the forest to my truck. I was soaked and exhausted, but it was worth it. This small painting reminds me that anything can happen when you are working outdoors.

While I love the painting and would love to be sitting there with my feet in the cold water- I was particularly drawn to the ripples in the water in the foreground, and how natural they are!

Ditto to all the above comments, plus such a strong composition AND my immediate reaction was to feel the softness of that moss. By the way, if you're a member of the Harrisburg Art Ass.[ or not], this would be a great entry in their "The Green Zone" fall membership exhibition. Intake: August23- Sept 6.

Wonderful, Ron! This works in every way - and really makes me feel as though I am right there.

Ron, Just saw "Pittsburgh Winter" at the associated artists show at the Carnegie. Congrats, it is wonderful in person.
