Percussion by Linda Young

Watercolor on Illustration Board
by Linda Young

This is an impressionist watercolor painting done on illustration board. It's just like painting on glass so there's not much chance of repositioning or painting with a brush once the color is put down. It's like allowing the watercolor to painting itself. Loving the painting style of Nita Engle, I try to mirror her technique in this painting. Once I got the idea in my head to let it alone and not try to help it out, the painting resulted in a lot of movement.

Painting with a knife, fingers and palm of the hand, drips and drops of water, squirting and sprinkling...I really enjoy painting in this style. It's so "liberating" for me. I looked in the mirror after painting this and I even had paint on my face. I tell ya, it's like bein' in kindergarten all over!

It is evident that you really enjoyed what you were working on here, Linda! I love the freedom and fluidity that is very evident in the piece.

This is truly beautiful, Linda. It looks much like the tempestuous ocean crashing against the rocky shore. Percussion indeed!

Absolutely beautiful. And to think you had such fun painting it! That's the way art should be.
