"Rock-A-Bye" by Linda Benton McCloskey

My latest abstract painting, "Rock-A-Bye". This painting actually started as a demonstration during one of my experimental classes at the Art Association of Harrisburg. I decided to exhibit it the other way around, but my students convinced me that it was "upside down". They were right! After looking at it the other way for awhile, I turned it the other way and signed it. We thought it looked like an abstract boat teetering in the water...hence the name. It's watermedia - image 27 x 18 - and is painted on paper.

I especially love these colors..and the flags flying. What a great abstract, it really lets my imagination fly!

This is very appealing. It has a nautical feeling, for me. I wonder, if viewed (from what is now) upside down, would that have changed my impression? As it is, I see boats and sails - the jib in particular, and old-fashioned shirts of the crew. The fact that these "impressions" are out of proportion to one another gives it a great sense of motion.
